Weekend trip to Omaha

My husband and I just moved to St. Louis from the East Coast, and we%26#39;re interested in taking a trip to Omaha since we%26#39;ve never explored much of the Midwest. Does anyone have recommendations on the best places to stay -- parts of town and/or hotels/b%26amp;bs -- and things to see?

Thanks!

The more tourist area of town would be around the Old Market and I would say either the Embassy Suites or the Hilton which would be a little further walk. The zoo is a short drive south and compares quite well with any in the country.

For something different you can get a cabin at Mahoney State Park and try the restaurant in the lodge the park is about twenty minutes south of Omaha just off I80.

Check out the website for the Joslyn Art Museum. The current travelling exhibit is Impressionism but it ends soon. The Durham Western Heritage Museum is good if you like trains and the old fashioned soda fountain is kind of fun. Across the river in Council Bluffs is another nice free railroad museum.

I agree withthe previous poster in that the Old Market is the most popular place for tourists to stay. However, there may be cheaper hotels in other parts of town and Omaha is very driveable.

Omaha hosts the College World Series and the Holland Perorming Arts Center has concerts that are usually a good value. If you golf, there are many courses to try.
