Motels/Hotels along I-80

We have never been to or drove through Nebraska but we have Kansas back in 2002. In June we are taking a trip to YNP and the half way point from home to Yellowstone is around Grand Island. Our questions are: For those that have drove this interstate (or live there) are the motels/gas stations plentiful at each exit? Or are they located a few miles off the interstate in the towns? We are not planning on making any motel reservations around Grand Island, we are hoping to drive as far west as possible but looking at a map the towns west of Grand Island look very small, how are the motels %26amp; gas stations that way? Any info will be apperciated.

(When we went through Kansas in 2002 it was late at night and every exit we got off at had no motel and maybe 1 ';mom %26amp; pop'; gas station that had done closed, talk about ';driving on empty';)

Motels/Hotels along I-80

There is a good selection of hotels in Kearney, exit-272 %26amp; Ogallala, exit-126. We have stopped in both towns during our travels in 2006.

North Platte, exit-177, offers up a good selection as well.

I do not think that you will have anything to worry about.

Motels/Hotels along I-80

The eastern part of I80 there are hotels at 50% of the exits. As you travel west especially after Kearney the hotels are fewer except the cities mentioned above and around touristy stops, Paxton, Sidney. Alot of the exits don%26#39;t have gas station nearby.

This site may help locate hotels www.visitnebraska.gov.

If you plan on stopping at Grand Island, there are plenty of hotels. Take the Locust Street Exit, the first one for Grand Island and you will find plenty of options.

The only problem I have with taking the Locust Street exit in Grand Island is that the hotels/motels are IN Grand Island, about 7 miles from the interstate. There are filling stations, motels, and restaurants located by the interstate at exit 312.

But I think the poster said he was thinking of driving west of Grand Island. I%26#39;m not as familiar with those towns. Most towns have gas stations and a few restaurants, especially fast food restaurants close to the interstate.

Thanks everybody! We are hoping to get west of Grand Island. From home to Grand Island is about 12 or 13 hour drive and not real sure how far it is from there to West Yellowstone MT. (where we are headed) But that 1ST day we are wanting to drive as far as possible.
