Traveling across the state on highway 80

THe first week of August we will be in route with our youth mission trip across Nebraska. They are aged 14-18 could anyone give us interesting places to stop annd take a break. We will be with a coach bus. I have already the Sand crane viewing area in Grand Island,River Road Archway,Bufallo Bill Ranch,Sod house and Front Street. Am I missing some thing also if someone knows of anyplace we could tie some religion in would be great.

The crane season is now, early spring, there will be other birds/wildlife to view in August but not the number. Nebraska’s tourism site www.visitnebraska.gov Some others to add to the list:

Stuhr Museum, Grand Island. They have an outdoors 1880 Town setup, also includes a country church. It has been used for movie set for few movies including Sarah Plain %26amp; Tall. www.stuhrmuseum.org

Cabelas, Sidney. That is the worldwide headquarters.

Oles, Paxton. We usually stop for lunch, it is an old tavern with all kinds of stuffed (as in taxidermy) animals including a polar bear, and others you can stand next to www.olesbiggame.com

Runza is a fast food restaurant chain in Nebraska with great burgers, fries %26amp; onion rings. A runza is meat mixture baked in bread, like a mini calzone.

Oh, definitely go to Runza.

The Hall County Fair (in Grand Island) is Aug 6-9.

There%26#39;s Pioneer Village as well, as seen in About Schmidt.

I don%26#39;t know where you going. Along I-80, I assume, but Ashfalls with its fossil beds is really interesting, though out of the way.

And Carhenge for religion, perhaps? :P

This site has suggested group tours which should help:

Good luck!

Howdy tammyb,

When visiting North Platte you might checkout the new Golden Spike Tower. http://www.goldenspiketower.com/_new/

Happy trails,

If its a Catholic group you could stop at the Holy Family Shrine off I-80 near Gretna.

The SAC museum near Ashland is great, but its a great science and technology thing - the boys would especially like that.

In the fall 80,000 or so gather on many Saturdays in Lincoln, to pray that the Huskers win.

Thank you all so much

www.holyfamilyshrine.com The Holy Family Shrine is located between Omaha and Lincoln off I-80, exit 432-south on Hwy 31 (1.3 miles) west on Pflug Road (1 mile). This might be something of interest for you, even if you aren%26#39;t Catholic.

Like another poster mentioned is the Stuhr Museum. A great place to stretch the legs while learning some US history.

Carhenge isn%26#39;t remotely religious, just a bunch of cars piled on top of each other.

Marantha Camp is located at Maxwell, NE east of North Platte. They hold camps there all summer, but might let your kids join the campers in some activities. If they aren%26#39;t full, some beds might be available for a night.
