My adult daughter and myself will be stopping in Lincoln for the night, en route to Durango Springs. Should be getting there late afternoon and leaving late morning the next day. We need a reasonable hotel and a good restaurant for dinner in an easy to get to and safe neighborhood. Also, is there something we should see while we are there? Days are long this time of year and we may never get to Lincoln again.

A Holiday Express was built in 06 at 8801 Amber Hill Ct. This is on the east side of Lincoln on Highway 2. Around that area, you will findchain restaurants. A small chain that started in Lincoln is Runza. You should try them a least once. Runza are a long roll stuffed and baked. They come in different varieties. Another fantastic restaurant is Grandmother%26#39;s at 70th and A. Tandoor(Indian), Wind Chimes(oriental) Parthenon(Greek) are all located along Highway 2. Acapulco is a new Mexican restaurant located at about 13th and Highway 2.
North 27th St. has many hotels and chain restaurants.
57th and Highway 2 is a Hampton Inn.
There are 3 hotels in the Haymarket District, but they aren%26#39;t cheap and I don%26#39;t feel safe in this area at night. It is fine for shopping or walking in the day, just not at night.
A few suggestions of things to do would be to browse the boutiques in the restored Haymarket District. This area is as the name implies , an old haymarket. ,Sunken Gardens(newly renovated) with a newly renovated rose garden across the st.(free), NE Natural History Museum(donation), state capitol(free), National Roller Skating Museum (donation),telegraph and telephone museum,Sheldon Art Gallery, Germans from Russia museum. If you have time for a trip 45 minutes south would be to go the the National Homestead Monument at Beatrice, Ne . Here they have a new visitors center that resembles a plow that the homesteaders used to break the sod. Also, they have many exhibits and artifacts. A one-room school can be toured. The monument is located on the first homesteader%26#39;s homestead in NE.

For restaurants in the Haymarket area, I would suggest Lazlo%26#39;s (American food), Arturo%26#39;s (Mexican food), or Vincenzo%26#39;s (Italian). A few blocks east of the Haymarket is Misty%26#39;s, which is a pretty nice steakhouse. This area of downtown is very safe.

We don%26#39;t really have an expressway in Lincoln, but I assume you%26#39;ll be coming in on Interstate 80. So you%26#39;ll want to take I-80 to the I-180/Highway 34 South exit. It may say Downtown/9th Street also. After about two miles, you%26#39;ll see Memorial Stadium on your left (Nebraska plays football there) and a baseball stadium on your right. When you come off of this overpass, which is 9th Street, you%26#39;ll want to be in the right lane. The Haymarket is to your right. Just turn right at P Street (which will be the first stop light) and that will take you to the heart of the Haymarket. The Haymarket region basically is from 9th Street to 7th Street and from O Street to Q Street. It%26#39;s very easy to find. There are several parking lots in the area, mainly under the O Street overpass or down on 7th Street. Street parking is an option too.
