Henry Doorly Zoo

My husband %26amp; I are planning a day trip to visit the zoo from KC. What are the prices like at the restaurants at the zoo? (trying to budget, since most will go to gas)

Food:

TreeTops Restaurant: Cafeteria-style restaurant overlooking the world%26#39;s largest indoor rainforest, the Lied Jungle, open daily.

Concession stands: Variety of menu items. Located throughout the zoo, open during warm weather. Limited menu items at each stand.

Picnic areas: Located throughout the zoo, available on a first come, first serve basis.

Depending on what you want to eat, 5-7 bucks per person should get you a decent lunch. I don%26#39;t think the price of burgers/hot dogs, etc. is that bad, but the soft drinks are pretty pricey. Salads and deli sandwiches at the Treetops Restaurant might be a little more expensive, but keep in mind that grill items cost no more there than at any of the other concession stands. Also the zoo does allow coolers and you can carry in anything except alcoholic beverages. There is a beautiful outdoor picnic area between the aviary and the Omaha train depot, and picnic tables are scattered throughout the zoo.

If at all possible, I strongly urge you to bring in a picnic. Prices are a bit high for the quality of food, in my opinion.

Tree tops generally does have the best selection and quality. Cafeteria style plus concession style as well.

If you don%26#39;t want to lug around a cooler, you can go out to your car, just get your hand stamped before.

You will love the zoo. It is one of my favorite places to go year round. (much better than the one in KC...we lived there for 11 years)

Thanks for the info. And Lisa, yes I agree, the KC zoo is not much to write home about. Looking forward to seeing a good quality zoo!
