One night in Omaha - Need Locals Advice

Work is taking me to Lincoln for a day in March. We%26#39;re flying in and out of Omaha and will be spending the night in Omaha on Wed March 19th. It%26#39;s my first time to town so I have no idea where to stay and where I can get an awesome meal for my one night only visit.

C%26#39;mon locals help me out! What hotels do you recommend? What restaurants do you recommend?

One night in Omaha - Need Locals Advice

Embassy Suites downtown or Hilton Garden Inn downtown and maybe dinner at the Upstream Brewery Old Market.

Something to keep in mind. Omaha is a site for one of the NCAA basketball tournament opening rounds, and that begins on March 20th, so there maybe quite a few people in town on the 19th in preparation for the tournament.

As far as hotels go. The Hilton downtown is very nice.

Upstream is a good choice as far as brewpubs go. Always a good atmosphere it seems like.

If you want upscale, V Mertz or Flatiron Cafe are good.

Or if you%26#39;re looking for a good steak, there%26#39;s Johnny%26#39;s Cafe, south of downtown or Gorat%26#39;s. Both places have that 50%26#39;s-60%26#39;s steakhouse vibe.

What type of food do you like? Ww could recommend some great restaurants in Lincoln you could enjoy before you head back to Omaha. Welcome to the midwest.

I like everything. Dinner in Lincoln may not be a bad idea since it looks like Omaha may be a bit on the busy side the night we%26#39;re there. (I was wondering why so many hotels were sold out that night!). I%26#39;ll take recommendations in Lincoln too if there%26#39;s somewhere worth checking out!

Greek food: Parthenon

Indian:Oven (two locations)

Mexican:LaPaz and Acapulco

Family: Grandmother%26#39;s Restaurant

Local chain: Runza (hoagie style bread baked with various hamburger mixture) have to try at least one

Steaks: Steakhouse and Misty%26#39;s

Billy%26#39;s, Venue, Green Gateau and Wilderness Ridge also have excellent food.

We hope this helps and don%26#39;t be afraid to ask more questions or directions.

Head over to La Buvette on 11th between Harney and Jackson, great cheese plates, hummus, salmon, and simple entrees. Specials are changed daily. Urban Wine Company on 11th and Jones St. is also a great bet. They have a great menu of small plates, and fun wine selection. The prices are reasonable for both. They might be more off the beaten path if you%26#39;re looking to avoid the NCAA mob.

I would definitely recommend the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, it is great, owned by Marriott, and really reasonable. They have a fantastic cafe downstairs, and is within walking distance of everything you would like to see in Lincoln. Green Gateau is an excellent choice for a restaurant as well, reasonably priced and service is excellent. Food there is outstanding.

If you need a more reasonable place for a hotel, try the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Lincoln, on 10th St, it is also within walking distance of everything downtown. You should try to visit the capital while in Lincoln, it is quite beautiful, and worth seeing.

Lincoln is a college town, so it will be busy, but is much smaller than Omaha, so it is easy to get around in. The people there are very friendly. You will love it there!
