Traveling thru Nebraska from WY to Missouri

Traveling thru Nebraska (we think via the Sand Hills route) in late September from Devil%26#39;s Tower in WY to Missouri. Any recommendations as to things we should do or see? Traveling in our RV.

Thanks

A canoe trip can be taken on the Niobrara River at Valentine. Beautiful sandhills views on the road from Mission, SD to Valentine, NE. If you like windmills, you can get some great pictures. You can fish trout in the Pine Creek at Long Pine, NE. Camping is available at the Long Pine State Recreation Area. Grand Island has the Stuhr Museum, which has buildings moved to the site to look like a farm and small town in the early 1900%26#39;s. A lot of week-ends they have special actiivities planned. A great place to visit and have a picnic.

Beatrice, south of I-80, about 45 minutes, has the Homestead National Monument. The monument is located on land of one of the first homesteaders, Daniel Freeman. This spring they opened a new visitor%26#39;s center, in the shape of a sod buster. Here they have a museum dedicated to things pertaining to the Homestead Act. You can take a hike on a trail in natural prairie. Also, a one-room school is available to tour.

Lincoln has NE History Museum which a quilt exhibit, a building the state(1867-1916) exhibit, a made in NE exhibiit, and other things. The cost for this is a 2.00 suggested donation. Also, there is a Germans from Russia Museum, telephone and telegraph museum, free national roller-skating museum, the capitol, a newly restored sunken gardens with many flowers and water features. You might also want to take in a NE football game if you come on a Sat.

Between Lincoln and Omaha, east of Ashland, is the air and space museum. Many planes are on display, inside a HUGE structure, and you can watch them restoring other planes. Also, they have different traveling exhibits. Also, at this exit on I-80, is Mahoney State Park which has camping and cabins available. Here you can fish, ride horses, large indoor playground for small children, paddleboats, waterpark, mini-golf, and in winter ice skate. Meals can be eaten at a lodge, have buffet or order off the menu.

Omaha has a wonderful zoo.

Have a wonderful vacation.

Thank you so much for all the great Nebraska tips! I knew there were things in Nebraska that we should see. I%26#39;m excited about making this trip. Will definitely keep your tips in mind.

Thanks again.

I forgot to mention Chimney Rock on the Oregon Trail and nearby Courhouse Rock and Jail house Rock. All 3 of these to seem to just rise out of the prairie. Also, the Scottsbluff National Monument is interesting. NE National Forest includes an unusual combination of forest and grasslands. Calamus reservoir and dam near Burwell is a popular place to fish. Arbor Lodge at NE City is a fun location. Take a hike and a trip to the top of the treehouse. At the end of Sept., you could watch them pick, sort, and bag apples at NE City.
