Omaha or Council Bluffs outdoors in May/June

I will be in Omaha for a weekend in late May or early June -

I%26#39;m looking for uniquely Omaha experiences especially those with a chance to be outdoors.

Are there hikes, nature areas along the Missouri (or elsewhere)?

Perhaps good biking (and a place to rent)?

I will have a car to get around.

Thank you.

I%26#39;m interested in seeing these answers too, as we%26#39;ve never been to Omaha.

Biking - the area lakes have concrete trails and there is a network of trails through the city ( Papio Trail ) . Do a google search on %26#39; Omaha Bicycle Rental %26#39; and you will find a lot of places like the Bike Rack that rent.

The Omaha Trails website has a lot of references:

Desoto Bend up north might be a nice hike - look for eagles....

The bike trails site is great. Thank you.

Now all I need is to find a reasonable bike rental.

Welcome to my home state of Nebraska! In Omaha there is a bunch of things to do, you should definitly visit the Henry Doorly Zoo, it%26#39;s amazing and great for children! visit this website www.omahazoo.com

Halfway between Lincoln and Omaha, NE, just off of I-80 at the Ashland Exit, you can find an annex of the Henry Doorly Zoo—The Lee Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari. It%26#39;s kind of a Drive-through version of the zoo, without the lions and tigers (there are bears, oh my, but they are in an enclosed area so there is nothing to fear!) Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids under 12. The river city star is a nice cruise boat ride up the Missouri, feat. lots of fun aboard. If you haven%26#39;t found a place to stay yet, try the Omaha Convention Center%26#39;s Holiday Inn, feat. Coco%26#39;s Water park, visit this site www.cocokeywaterresort.com

Have Fun

I really liked the Lauritzen Gardens. (sp?)

The River City Star is nice experience, river boat that takes various trips up and down Missouri river. www.rivercitystar.com

They also have what they call retro bikes to rent.

The annaul ';Taste of Omaha'; is the first weekend in June (6th - 8th)

There%26#39;s usually some free concerts at night and there are quite a few vendors from all over Omaha.

Thank you for the suggestions. Anyone know of bike shops downtown? That%26#39;s the missing item for me to take advantage of the trails.

Old Market Bike Rental 402-341-4555. 1220 S 6th St, Omaha, NE.

Not in downtown but the closest I could find other than the above:
