Restaurants - Omaha

Looking for a great steakhouse in Omaha, can anyone help?

Restaurants - Omaha

We had a great meal at the new Johnny%26#39;s Itailian Steakhouse in the Village Point shoppping area 168 + W Dodge. The other night.

Nebraska Beef has great steaks on %26#39;L %26#39; Street as does Charlies on the Lake on 144th street south of Center. Charleston%26#39;s on West Dodge road does a good job with a filet.

I didnt like the new Ted%26#39;s Montana Grill much.

In my opinion all of the old time Omaha steakhouses are way overrated ( Anthony%26#39;s, Cascio%26#39;s , MR C%26#39;s , )

Restaurants - Omaha

Our favorite steakhouse in Omaha is Warren Buffet%26#39;s favorite - Gorats of course!

Thanks for the info, will try Johnnys Italian, checked it out on the internet, liked the menu.

try Brother Sebastians.... my all time favorite!

Brother Sebastian%26#39;s is one of my favorite%26#39;s too. I also like Anthony%26#39;s on 72nd St.

Sorry folks , I know good meet and good restaraunts and Brother S. and the other old school places ( Anthony%26#39;s, Cascios , Mr. C%26#39;s etc. ) in Omaha are substandard to anyone that knows good food. The people that grew up in Omaha just dont know any better.

The farther west you go and the newer the restaurant in Omaha the better chance you have of getting a decent meal. There are a few places in the Old market and the newer places near downtown that are good .

These old steakhouses are living off their reputation , they are worn out, have poor decor, and are full of folks with gray hair that dont know any better.

Ignore Grayhorses blatant arrogance. I too have eaten at many great steakhouses (including Flemmings, Ruth%26#39;s Chris, The Palms, Mahogany, and many other chop houses). Are those better than Brother Sebastians? Sure. However, you also pay $75 a person to eat at one of them. For a $20 steak, you will NOT get a better steak in Omaha than Brother Sebastians.

However, I do tend to agree with some of the old steakhouses east of 42nd street, which is sad. I used to love Cascio%26#39;s.

Hey grayhorse, How about the Drover???? Is it another old/bad steak house or OK??? It sounds like you really know your ';meet';.

No comment on the Drover, have not been there. Heard it was good but cant verify that.

I am sorry its not arrogance, maybe its because I know what good meat is and tastes like. I know the difference between a $50 steakhouse and the $20 steakhouses as well as the difference between select, choice and prime and how dry aged steaks should taste as well as be served.

I find that on an average day places in this area that are known for their steaks serve meat that is generally not a match for a Choice grade steak that I can pick up in a supermarket and grill myself for $10. I can make a better %26#39;prime rib %26#39; with Choice grade meat from Sam%26#39;s Club than 95% of the places in town serve. Problem is that the customer that like these places dont know any better. Thats OK with me , if you are easlily pleased .

If you want steak that tastes like beef and that you dont need a chainsaw to cut or prime rib that does not taste like it was boiled ( losing all the real meat flavor hoping that the au jus will replace it ) you have to look around and ask people that know their meat. Restaurants try to get by on the cheap and do not use quaility beef , dont properly age their beef , hold prime rib in a steam table too long and many of the cooks really do not know how to cook a steak. It seems so easy but it is not.

Happy Eatin !!!

Sorry for the confusion , visiting my Brother in Chi town and using his computer.

Time to get some good Chicago Dogs and Itailian beef. Last night

was Deep Dish Pizza - Holy Cow do I miss the food here!

Ya can get a decent Hot Dog in Omaha with Atomic Dog but they did move downtown out of Oakview since I was there last.
