Omaha Zoo in ';bad'; area?

My family is planning to take a trip to Omaha at the end of the month. We plan on going to the zoo, however, I have heard before that around the zoo was not a ';very good area'; to find a hotel in.

Can you recommend someplace family friendly to stay at without being in ';ghetto'; land, if you can even say that for Omaha??!!! We were thinking about 80-110/night

Thanks a bunch!

It is true as far as for hotels anyway that there isn%26#39;t a broad selection in the zoo area.

Downtown has many of the newer rooms available as well as the western corridor of I80.

The Holiday Inn at 72nd and Grover has an indoor waterpark called Coco Key it has been getting mixed reviews.

What are the ages of the group to help narrow the choices.

Thanks for your into. By the way, the ages in our group are 4boy, 13%26amp;15girls, 20s-40s parents, and 70s grandparents are all planning on going. I was thinking about that indoor water area for preschoolers (I think it%26#39;s a bestwestern) however, I don%26#39;t think they have a regular pool for everyone to enjoy. I want someplace relaxing after a long day at the zoo! :)

The Fairfield Inn downtown is a possible and close to the Old Market area for restaurants and entertainment for the teens and adults and the Childrens Museum isn%26#39;t too far.

The Doubletree on 72nd is also close to many restaurants.

The Hampton Inn just off I80 at 126th Street is across from the Cabelas store it is a little smaller than the one at Village West in KC,K but has a different setup.

You had a couple good suggestions. Its not %26#39;ghetto%26#39; land - the Zoo is next to an older blue collar neighborhood right next to the baseball stadium. Not a dangerous place at all in my opinion. The problem is that there are no hotels / motels in the area - other than those 2 attractions its not a touristy area. The downtown hotels are a short drive away and downtown is nice as was stated. There are a bunch of options off I-80 at 72nd st as well as the %26#39;L%26#39; street exit farther west.

I would suggest the 72nd %26amp; I-80 area. Holiday Inn is there. Also, the new Hampton Inn would be good since its brand new.

Downtown is nice as well, though I%26#39;m not sure about parking.

You can%26#39;t really go wrong with any of those three locations. Omaha is small enough that you%26#39;ll be close enough to the zoo no matter what.

Enjoy the zoo - it is WONDERFUL! Definitely do the dome (both above ground and below) and the rainforest...they are AWESOME!
