Omaha to Yellowstone

We (middle age couple) will be traveling from Omaha to Yellowstone Park in September. Were planning stopover in Cheyenne WY but it doesn%26#39;t look like there is much to do there. Any suggestions for Cheyenne or anywhere else along our route?

Omaha to Yellowstone

If you like museums the Sturh Museum in Grand Island has alot of history of prarie life from Native Americans to today.

The Great Platte River Road Museum in Kearney is somewhat unique in that it spans I80 but is worth a stop for the history of the Oregon and Mormon Trails plus the Lincoln Highway.

Ole%26#39;s Big Game Restaurant in Paxton is a good lunch stop alot of memoriabilia photos and mounted big game animals.

Buffalo Bills Scout Ranch just outside of North Platte.

Omaha to Yellowstone

Between Omaha and Lincoln, exit 426 is the SAC musuem. It feautres many different planes used in the wars. www.strategicairandspace.com At this exit is also the Mahoney State Park where there are cabins and a lodge to rent rooms. They also serve meals in the lodge. We enjoy sitting in the dining room and looking at the Platte River. They have paved trails, driving range, you can ride a horse, fish, and other activities.

In Lincoln, you could tour the capitol for free. Also, we have the NE History Museum, Germans from Russia museum, a telephone and telegraph museum to name a few things.

In Beatrice, NE, just a little ways west of Beatrice, is the National Homestead Monument. A new visitor%26#39;s center is shaped to resembele a sod buster(plow). Also, they have trails to enjoy the prairie, exhibits from homesteading days, and a one-room schoolhouse.

Enjoy your day.
