dinner on Saturday night

Coming to Omaha as a stop on our way to Denver (we visited a couple of years ago -- but things change)

Staying at the Hilton(good weekend rate) Where can we go for dinner -- booked hotel because I wanted to be in the Old Market area to walk -- I remember a stellar Indian Place, but any suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much.

Assuming you wish to eat downtown:

You might want to try Vivace for pasta:

There is a new steakhouse - Sullivan%26#39;s on 15th St ( not Old market but close )

We like the Upstream Brewing Co in the Old Market for microbrew beer and root beer ( and now some microdistillery offerings ) and casual dining.

Or maybe the French Cafe on Howard in the O/M.

Thanks for the info -- if our day ends up taking longer than expected, we could be on the western edge of town -- any suggestions there? Thanks for being so patient with me.

There%26#39;s an Upstream out west. I%26#39;d second the above recommendation. It%26#39;s at like 170th and Center. Right next door is Roja, a good Mexican place.

The Village Pointe mall has a Kona Grill part of chain of American, seafood, sushi type food. It%26#39;s pretty good.

T Bones at 178th and Pacific isn%26#39;t bad. I hear some good things about the Prestige 169th and Pacific, but never been.

Charleston%26#39;s at 140th and Dodge is pretty good for your typical chain somewhat sophisticated bar food. I recommend it.

Those are good choices Simon - Kona for Pan Asian and shshi is good. In Village Pointe ( 168 and S side of Dodge area ) we like Firebirds for steaks. Also on Center between 168th and 180th streets is Colton%26#39;s which I think is good for steaks as well. You want to go high end pricy , Mahogany Prime ( 13660 California St ) just north of Dodge might be a good choice and for Italian in that area is Biaggi%26#39;s ( next to Mahogany prime ) .

I%26#39;ll put a good word in for Vincenzo%26#39;s just south of 144th and Blondo. Great affordable Italian food. Been to Colton%26#39;s once a few years back, thought it was a little overpriced for what you get. I think they%26#39;ve retooled a bit so perhaps it%26#39;s a touch different out there now.

Agree 100% on Vincenzo%26#39;s very good overall !

I think that there must be a lot of movement of chefs or something lately in Omaha eateries because I do notice a bit of inconsistency in a few of them once in a while, then they settle down. I know quite a few have shaken out and with energy costs and people eating out less these days with the poor economy my guess is the less profitable places and poorly run ones will not be here next year.

In the Old Market area, to walk ...

The Indian Oven is just around the corner onto Howard Street off 10th (just walk south on 10th from the hotel, right on Howard).

Ahmad%26#39;s is right next door to Indian Oven, and has Persian food which is very different and quite good.

Old Stream is not as exotic, but we have found it to be reliably good, and the seasonal beers are a kick.

Stokes Bar %26amp; Grill is a newer place on the corner of 12th %26amp; Howard, and features southwestern dishes in a nice atmosphere ... the patio is great, weather permitting. We love the tilapia tacos.

Of course, Omaha Prime and Vivace are good choices, as are the other top-scale places such as V Mertz. I%26#39;d just leave the hotel, walk south to Howard, turn west and see if you get past the Indian and Persian places. If so, just follow your nose.

My favorite dessert treat, which is markedly low-scale dining, is Ted %26amp; Wally%26#39;s home made ice cream, about a block west of Upstream in what appears to be a converted old service station.
