Restaurants on Restaurant.com

We will be visiting Omaha the end of August and are looking for dining ideas. My husband and I are meat eaters but our 16 year old daughter is a vegetarian. I would like to make use of Restaurant.com coupons if any of the restaurants listed there are good. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Of the places that are on the website, my recommendations would be

McKennas pretty good BBQ.

Stadium Sports Bar and Grill: This is the first level of a condo building, and has your basic bar food menu, but we%26#39;ve been there once and enjoyed our meal.

I%26#39;ve heard good things about Taste. They do a four course price fix meal, that two people may be able to share. This would be a restuarant that could cater to a vegetarian I would think.

Heard good things about the Prestige.

Never been to Lit, but a review in Omaha World Herald paper said it%26#39;s more bar than restuarant.

Been to Colton%26#39;s, but wasn%26#39;t that impressed for what you get for the money, though I%26#39;ve heard it%26#39;s undergone a menu change.

I reviewed the choices here are a few of our experiences:

We personally like Colton%26#39;s - its a bit higher priced steakhouse but we always have had good meals there.

I love Sushi Japan / Yakiniku Boy - good Sushi. There are a lot of vegetarian offerings on the menu that your daughter might like. They have a wide selection of cooked dishes and also the Yakiniku menu where you are served the raw meat and vegetables and you cook it yourself right in the middle of the table on a special grill - thats a fun time.

We didn%26#39;t like Ted%26#39;s Nebraska Grill - not worth the money and for sure I will not order Bison again.

Trovato%26#39;s is decent mid grade Italian but not a place I would recommend for someone from out of town.

Oh yes - forgot:

Caniglia%26#39;s Venice Inn %26gt; Fuggetaboutit

Garden Cafe : Original owners ( Popp ) had it right and had a lot of locations - this might be the last one left after they had to shut the others down. New owners messed it up and it got so bad I stopped going there.

Most good places to eat now recognize there are meat eaters and people who would prefer not to or don%26#39;t at all, and so make offerings available for all tastes. It is after all, a tough business.

MARK%26#39;S in the Dundee area is excellent, many salads as well as entrees with meat or fish, excellent wine list and full bar. High marks (no pun meant).

THE FLATIRON is in an old flatiron building downtown and offers excellent food, wine list and service. No disappointments here.

V MERTZ is always worth a look, in the Old Market passageway downstairs by the huge flower vase.

There is, sad to say, no Italian dining worth much in town, being all red sauce places at best.

Several sushi places exist, which are ok given the access now to fresh fish by air freight. Not San Francisco quality but perfectly ok.

MAHOGANY is a high end steak place, small chain, very expensive but if you like red meat, this is the place (and I expect there is fish and salads on offer as well).

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Just an update %26gt; article in the paper this AM says Trovado%26#39;s in Dundee has filed for bankruptcy and is closing this weekend.

Good point about not wanting to be critical that seems to be the case. The food scene here is much improved in the last 15 years thats for sure. I also like Nichole%26#39;s reviews they are descriptive and informative.

When we first moved here , my wife and I were always amazed when friends picked a restaurant that they felt was %26#39;great%26#39; and after we ate there we felt it was %26#39;just OK %26#39;.... especially many of the so called great steakhouses here - its like they are in a time warp from the 1970%26#39;s.

McFosters is pretty good. It specialized in vegetarian food but there are some real meat and faux-meat dishes. It%26#39;s a fun, off-beat place. It is in my top 20 list for Omaha restaurants.
