Trip to Omaha

My wife and I will be taking a little vacation to Omaha probably this Saturday thru Tuesday. Our plan is to try to stay around the Old Market area. We%26#39;ll probably mainly try to enjoy some good bars/restaurants and look into a couple of good museums.

It looks like the Embassy Suites is definitely the closest to Old Market. Are there any others that are walkable? Are the neighborhoods surrounding the Old Market area ok at night? Any other suggestions on must do things other than the Zoo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Trip to Omaha

The Courtyard and Hilton Garden Inn are close by as far as walking the area at night it%26#39;s like most any other city this size. Stay in the well lit areas later in the night and as usual if there is other people in the area it%26#39;s probably alright.

Trip to Omaha

Durham Museum is by Old Market. Lauritzen Gardens are a few miles away. Joslyn Art Museum is about 1 1/2 miles away.

We have stayed at the Hilton, Embassy, Doubletree, Garden Inn %26amp; Courtyard and would stay at all again. Friends have stayed at and recommend Magnolia, Homewood, %26amp; Hampton Suites.

We have walked all over that area on weekends at night and have never felt threatened. Usually lots of other visitors walking as well, usually back to hotel by bar closing 1am!

There%26#39;s the Union Pacific railroad museum across the river in Council Bluffs. It%26#39;s not too bad. The SAC museum in Ashland (40 minute trip from downtown) is pretty neat if you enjoy air planes.

Good suggestion Simon we like to go over to the lodge at Mahoney when we%26#39;re in the area and have dinner.

That would be Mahoney State Park above the Platte River not bad scenery and the food is good.
